Ces prismes simples introduisent une asymétrie dans le système optique qui est responsable d'une réduction drastique de la qualité de l'image. Ces plaques planes sont constituées de deux prismes complémentaires de verres différents. Les verres sont sélectionnés pour avoir un indice de réfraction identique mais des dispersions différentes. Les deux interfaces ont des queues d'aronde identiques dans lesquelles s'insèrent les adaptateurs T2 mâle et T2 femelle ajoutés.
